Bazaar Ledger

Bazaar Ledger — Privacy Policy

Effective: 18 October 2026

Bazaar Ledger is a billing, credit book and stock app for shops. It is built so that a shop's books stay on the shop's own phone. This policy says exactly what leaves the phone, when, and why. The technical detail behind every line is in what_leaves_the_phone.md, published with the app's source.

This policy is published at the /privacy page of our server, the address the app talks to, and how to delete your data at its /delete-account page.

The short version

What stays on your phone

Everything you enter: your shop's details, items, customers and suppliers, bills, payments, cheques, stock, staff names and their PINs (stored as hashes), photos of items, and settings. The database is encrypted with a key kept in Android's keystore.

What leaves your phone, and only when you choose it

WhenWhat goesWhere
You share a bill, report or backupThat fileWherever you send it in Android's share sheet (WhatsApp, email, Drive…)
You turn on the daily Google Drive backup (paid plans)Your books, sealed with a passphrase only you knowA private app folder in your own Google Drive. Google cannot open it and neither can we.
You connect another counter on your shop's wi-fiThe shop's booksYour other phone on the same wi-fi network, directly. Nothing goes over the internet.
The owner turns on the cloud (Settings › Cloud backup aur sync; paid plans)A daily backup of your books, and, if you turn on sync, your books' changes — both locked on your phone with keys we never receive; your phones' public keys and ids; the sizes and times of what is sent; your IP addressOur server, a rented machine in France (EU). We cannot open what it keeps.
You add another phone over the internetA locked note from each phone to the other, passed through our server. The six-digit code on your screen is never sent. Our server holds the notes for a few minutes; it cannot open them.
You bring your shop back on a new phone with your recovery code (free on every plan)A key made from the code, to ask for your backupsOur server sends back your locked backups; your phone opens them.
You send a bill or a customer account as a link (cloud on)That one bill or that one customer's account, locked on your phone with a key made for that link alone; the key travels only inside the linkOur server keeps it locked; the customer's browser opens it with the key in the link. Anyone the link reaches can read that bill or account.
The owner opens the dashboard on a PC (/dashboard/, cloud on, Gold)The PC's own public key and its requests for your locked backup and your books' locked changes; the PC's IP address. The owner's phone lets the PC in with the six-digit code and locks the shop's key for that PC alone. Our server, which hands the PC the page and the locked bytes; the PC's browser opens your books, and our server cannot. The PC can only read: it can never change your books.
A sales-tax-registered shop turns on FBR Digital Invoicing (Platinum)Each new bill's invoice details (your NTN/STRN, the buyer's name and NTN, items, HS codes, quantities, prices, tax)FBR's Digital Invoicing gateway, or the integrator address you enter, as the law requires
The owner turns on WhatsApp automatic (Settings › WhatsApp automatic) with their own Meta keyEach message the owner has chosen to send by itself: the customer's name and WhatsApp number, a bill, receipt or reminder's number, amounts and dates, and a bill's or statement's PDF. The owner's access token is kept encrypted on the phone and is sent only to Meta.Meta's WhatsApp Cloud API, straight from your phone, from your own WhatsApp number. Not through our server: we never see these messages. Meta charges your own account for them.
You print to a network printerThe receiptThe printer on your own network
You buy a planNothing about your shopGoogle Play handles the payment. The app asks Play which plan your Google account has.
You enter a reviewer access code (Settings › About › Have an access code?), which only app reviewers and testers haveThe code you typed, and which Google account you are signed in asOur server, which checks it against a locked (hashed) list and, if it is good, gives that account the plan and AI credits the code was made for, for a limited time. It keeps that this account used that code and when, never the code itself; a wrong try is counted for the rate limit but kept with no code.
You buy a plan, once plans are checked by our serverYour Google account's id and email (you sign in with Google first); the Play purchase's token and which plan; a check from Google that the app is the one from PlayOur server, which checks the purchase and the app with Google and gives your phone a licence for 7 days. It learns who paid, never your books.
You turn on the AI assistant, and your phone is not sure what a command meansThe command's words; your app's language and your shop's currency and country; the names of up to 20 customers and suppliers and up to 20 items (with their unit and price) that your phone found for the names in the words, under short ids made up for that command. Never a balance, a bill, a phone number or anything else from your books. Our server, which passes them to Anthropic (Claude) and sends the answer back to fill a screen you check. Our server keeps the time, the kind of answer, how many tokens it used and your credits, never the words or the names.
You ask your books a question in the search box, and your phone cannot answer it itselfThe question's words; your app's language and your shop's currency and country; today's date and the dates of this week, last month and your financial year; the names of up to 8 customers and suppliers and up to 8 items that your phone found for the names in the question, under short ids. No figure, balance or bill from your books. Our server, which passes them to Anthropic (Claude), which names which of a fixed list of questions to ask your books. Your phone then asks them of your own books; the answer never leaves it.
You tap "Explain in words" under an answerThe labelled numbers on the screen (such as "#1: Rs 3,000"), never a nameOur server and Anthropic, which write a few plain sentences.
You choose "Read with AI" on a supplier's bill, or photograph a page of an old khataThe photo, made smaller on your phoneOur server and Anthropic, which read it. Our server does not keep the photo, and the answer fills a draft you check.
You choose "Let the AI find the columns" for a file you exported from another appThe headings and up to 20 sample rows of that file, phone numbers cut to their first four digits. Not the rest of the fileOur server and Anthropic, which say which column is which. Your phone reads the whole file itself.
You send a message in the AI chat that your phone cannot answer itselfWhat you typed (up to 300 characters); the conversation so far as short text (since M151 every message since its summary, up to 180,000 characters, kept only in Anthropic's short-lived cache), and in a long conversation a short summary of its earlier part (written by the AI from those messages and kept with the conversation on your phone); your app's language, your shop's currency and country and today's dates; the names of up to 6 customers or suppliers and 6 items (with unit and price) your phone found for the names you used; the titles of up to 4 help topics your phone found; for a price change, your category and supplier names; and the figures of the latest answer shown in the chat, with names hidden as #1, #2. Nothing else from your books with the message itself (figures a question needs go only as the next row says). Our server, which passes them to Anthropic (Claude) and sends one answer back: words, or a card that opens a screen you check. Our server keeps the time, the kind, the tokens and your credits, never the words. The conversation itself stays on your phone.
In the AI chat, the AI needs figures from your books to answer (and "Let the AI read figures from my books" is on, as it is unless you turn it off)Only what that question needs, worked out on your phone from your own books as the person signed in is allowed to see them: totals and changes for a period (sales, expenses, profit, money in and out, cash, bank, receivable, payable, stock value), or a few rows of one kind of record (bills, payments, parties with their phone numbers and balances, items, stock, staff, repairs, the activity log and so on), at most two lookups a message, each a short result. Never the whole book, never a PIN, password, recovery code, key or token; a bank account number to its last four digits; a CNIC, NTN or STRN hidden. Our server, which passes it to Anthropic (Claude) for that one message and sends the answer back. Our server does not keep it: between your phone's lookups it holds only the message's credits, ids and counts. The result also stays under the answer on your phone, where a tap shows exactly what was sent.
You attach a PDF or a Word document in the AI chat, and agree to its priceThe document: a PDF's pages as they are, or a Word document's text, with the words you typed beside it, your app's language, your shop's currency and country and today's date. Never your books. Our server, which passes it to Anthropic (Claude) for that one request and sends one answer back: words, or a draft you check (a price list, a supplier's bill or quotation, a company's policy). Our server does not keep the document or its words: it keeps the time, the kind, the number of pages, the tokens and your credits.
You buy AI creditsYour Google account's id (you sign in with Google first); the Play purchase's token and which packOur server, which checks the purchase with Google, adds the credits to your account and closes the purchase.
You tap "Get today's rates" in Exchange ratesYour shop's currency code (such as PKR) and your IP address. Nothing else: no shop, no phone's id, nothing from your booksOur server, which answers with that day's exchange rates from a public source it fetches once a day. Your own rates stay on your phone and work without it.

The app is for shopkeepers running a business and is not directed at children under 13.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling the app deletes everything on the phone. Backups you made or shared, and the Drive app folder, are in places you control: delete them there (Google Drive › Settings › Manage apps › Bazaar Ledger › Delete hidden app data).

Our server, in the app. The owner opens Settings › Cloud and taps "Account aur cloud data mitaa dein". After the owner's PIN (or a typed word), everything we hold for the shop is deleted at once: the account link (your Google account's id and email), the plan record and your AI credits and reports; every phone's key; every sealed backup; the sync changes still waiting on the server; every link; and every PC dashboard let in (its key, and its being read-only). Your books stay on your phone. It needs the internet, and it cannot be undone.

Our server, without the app. If you have lost the phone, or no longer have the app, write to the address below from the email of your Google account, or with the first group of your recovery code (never the whole code), and we will delete the same things within 30 days. The page at /delete-account says how, in English and Roman Urdu.

What we keep after that: nothing about you or your shop, except two things that go on their own. The server's rolling log (a shop's random number and, for refused requests, an IP address; no email, no books) is overwritten as new lines arrive (it holds about 50 MB, which is days to a few weeks of traffic). And the locked copy of our server's data, kept off the server for thirty nights in case it fails, ages out within thirty nights: an account deleted today is gone from every copy by day thirty. If we ever have to restore from a copy, we delete again what you had asked us to delete before we put the server back in use. If you never turned the cloud on, we hold nothing to delete.

Google Play subscriptions are separate. Deleting your account does not cancel a plan you bought through Google Play, and we cannot cancel it for you. Cancel it first in Google Play (Play Store › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions), then delete your account. Google Play keeps its own record of the purchase, under Google's policy.

Withdrawing a single link deletes that link's locked copy at once.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published at the same address with a new effective date before the app that needs it is released.
